Poly Announces Studio P Series at Microsoft Ignite

In March, Poly announced a suite of new audio and video solutions to aid remote workers that we believe bridges a gap between classic consumer and enterprise solutions we have seen in the past.  Remote and hybrid work will be continuing well into 2021 and beyond and the applications that connect our workforce require improved audio and video solutions so that enterprise employees can more effectively collaborate at home or in the office. These solutions need to be secure, manageable, and easy to troubleshoot in the field. Quality webcams with performant microphones and conferencing displays may not have been as top of mind before 2020, but a rapid adoption of a work from home environment is driving the need for better audio and video conferencing devices.

The new Poly Studio P Series includes the Poly Studio P5 Webcam, Poly Studio P15 Personal Video Bar, and Poly Studio P21 Personal Conferencing Display.

Poly Studio P5 Webcam

The Poly Studio P5 Webcam is the first addition to the lineup. The camera has a similar concept to many external webcams and will attach securely to the top of your laptop or external display.

Key features:

  • Can record video at 1080P resolution
  • Capable of autofocusing at 4x digital zoom.
  • Built-in privacy shutter
  • Built-in directional microphone on the top of the webcam
  • USB connection for headsets
  • Automatically adjusts for low light scenarios

I see the Poly Studio P5 slotting in as a great entry point device for users wanting to upgrade from a laptop webcam or a 720P external webcam. The Poly Studio P5 should be a welcomed upgrade for enterprise users working from home.

The Poly Lens Desktop app also supports the device. The desktop application gives the user the ability to change settings, manage updates, see alerts, and view analytics.

Poly Studio P15 Personal Video Bar

Poly positioned the Poly Studio P15 as a truly premium webcam solution.

Key Features:

  • 1 USB-C port
  • 2 USB-A ports
  • Kensington security lock
  • Power connector
  • Shoots video in 4K resolution
  • Automatic camera framing
  • Built-in privacy shutter
  • Multi-microphone array
  • NoiseBlockAI
  • Acoustic Fence
  • Integrated speaker

I like the Poly Studio P15 because it encompasses both premium video and reliable audio in a unified device. Users can simplify their workspace by using a single USB webcam for both audio and video. If you have ever tried to use traditional audio from a webcam, you know they have notoriously poor audio quality. The Studio P15 should be a big step up from your typical webcam and laptop camera, and speakers. You can also customise the settings on the Poly Studio P15 within the Poly Lens Desktop app.

Poly Studio P21

The last new device that Poly announced is the Poly Studio P21 Personal Meeting Display. The Poly Studio P21 is a conferencing display that provides all the features one would ever need for an incredible video conferencing experience. The 21″ display has a camera built into the top and as well as speakers. I think of this device as a display solely for premium and seamless video conferencing.

Key features:

  • Adjustable dynamic display
  • Single USB cable
  • Built-in camera
  • Integrated microphone and speakers
  • Wireless phone charging stand in the base
  • Supports any video app that runs natively on PC or Mac devices

This is essential for people who don’t just use Zoom and Teams; and also run Skype, WebEx, and Google Hangouts, to name a few other applications. Like the other devices, the settings on the Poly Studio P21 are also customisable within the Poly Lens Desktop app.

Poly Studio P5 Kit

Another exciting offer coming from Poly is the Poly Studio P5 kit. The kit includes a Studio P5 webcam and then gives the user the ability to choose a personal device, either a Poly headset or Poly Sync portable speaker. The three headset options are the Blackwire 3210, Blackwire 3325, and Voyager 4220 UC. These headsets range in quality from wired, entry-level headset to ultra-premium wireless headsets for mobile collaboration. The bundle seems like an easy way to get enterprise users up and running video conferencing within minutes.

Wrapping up

Poly has launched some great devices with the Studio P Series. Webcams and displays are essential for collaboration, and Poly’s new devices will surely make work from home a better experience for many remote employees.

Poly looks focused on improving collaboration experiences between remote workers with its new devices. It’s taking an equally focused approach from a hardware and software perspective to pull this off. Poly has established a deep partnership with collaboration giants like Zoom and Microsoft Teams to create a better user experience.
