If your company makes use of laptop computers which are reguarly
out of the office, we would recommend the use of Encryption to
protect any data on the machines should they be lost of stolen.
Often this sort of security is only considered after a loss or
theft, but the implications of losing data should be considered
before hand as measures can't be taken after a loss or theft has
occured.
There are different ways to protected your data - hardware
support built directly into the laptop or software which provides a
secure location on the laptop to store your files or encrypts the
machine entirely. Encrypting will protect the data if it is lost,
but will not provide a recovery facility unless partnered with a
backup solution. We recommend regularly backing up data using an
automated system which will provide you with a reliable copy of
your data should you need to rollback or recovery from a loss or
failure.
USB Flash Drives
Data on USB flash drives and external hard drives is extremely
vulnerable to loss and should therefore be secured. aFinite can
supply specialised, secured USB memory drives which feature
hardware encryption to protect your data. We can also advise, setup
and configure software based encryption software for use on almost
any type of storage device to protect your data.
